*Inception of the Department of English coincides with that of college in 1919.
*The Department holds a unique position in the college as well as in the university.
*The founder members of this department Prof. Sharda Prasad Saksena, Prof. R.D. Trivedi and Prof. S.P. Singh have carved a niche the world over. We refer to R. D. Trivedi's book 'Compendious History of English Literature. His book is very helpful for English Literature students.
*Members have brought laurels to the Department by being visiting faculty at IITs and several other professional institutes.
*The year 1993 was a landmark in the history of the Department. Prof. Barbara Hardy from London was the keynote speaker in the international seminar. This seminar proved to be a trend-setter with similar International seminars happening in the year 2005 and 2008 with English literary luminaries Prof. Jayanta Mahapatra, a noted poet and Prof. Adam Klien from U.S. as keynote speaker and chief guest on respective occasions.
