Department of Botany

Under the experienced leadership of distinguished taxonomist Dr. J.S. Mathur, the department was established in 1944 and has since developed into an established centre for botanical sciences investigations and higher education. It has the distinctive attribute of being the only educational institution in the world to offer PG specialization in 6 different plant science disciplines. The department's strength is derived from the highly competent faculty members experienced in various plant sciences fields. This group of people not only advances the cause of academic and research excellence but also continues to enhance the exemplary academic work culture established by their predecessors before it, many of whom went on to become internationally prominent writers and academicians who continue to be respected in high regard for their intellectual ability. However, the department's well-kept botanical garden represents almost all the significant plant taxonomic groups. Fairly recently, a DBT-SERB-sponsored state-of-the-art research facility for molecular research along with cotton fiber improvement through molecular manipulations under the said project and three (03) research project grants from the Uttar Pradesh Higher Service Education Commission.
